10 Facts about Music Video History

What is a music video?
Used as a short film to intergrate the written song or sound by imagery and published for promotional reasons to market the artist and recordings.
History
During the early 20th century where talkies, soundies and shorts helped produce music video. Musicals were a start up to music videos and inspires present music videos and videos in history. Music videos were known as promotional clips for big artists in the 1950-60's
Fact 1.
Michael Jackson is one of the most popular icons in music video history as his videos were used to promote his recordings. Music videos such as 'thriller' 'beat it ' and 'billie jean' were famous narrative visuals.
Fact 2.
In 1929 Bessie Smith was filmed singing a hit song called Louis Saint Blues which in those days was known as a short two-reel film.
Fact 3.
In the 1950s and 60's promotional clips were inspired by this times' musical films. Srars began to imitate scenes of a musical and implant them in their vudeis with a twist. For example Michael Jacksons 'Bad' taken from West  Side Story musical and Madonna's Material Girl imitated the 'Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend' scene in Gentlemen prefer Blondes'

Walt Disney had cartoon films that had classical ambient sounds during the film

MTV UK & Ireland was launched oonky in July 1997

MTV is an American based channel and first launched in 1981 in the USA

1974 was the beginning of music television

MTV VMA's was anounced to awarded mainstream artists for their music video and also awarded director's

These genres are less mainstream and known as underground sound therefore the production could be more creative and less difficult than using a mainstream sound which will require high budget use of cameras and equipment. Choosing amainstream song requires high quality and as a student we do not have the expenses for this.

- Clubs in Central London
- O2 Arena
- West End


Settings:
- London Transport
- Nightclubs
- Night atmosphere using road shots and headlights




Chosen Idea 
Song: Crazy Cousins feat. Kyla - Do You Mind
Genre: UK House
This song was released in 2008 which isn't as current but still has an attraction to the younger population. Songs of this genre are highly favourited by those in urban youth culture

In the video...
There is a main female singer approaching a male in a club. Surrounded by the 'star' will be young ravers dancing to the song in the club
